Job description

The PSYCHE project is an INTERREG project between France, Wallonia and Flanders. Its goal is to produce key platform chemicals such as alcohols and olefins out of plastic waste. This PhD position has 2 main goals. Firstly, to study different pretreatment options to remove impurities such as pollutants, other plastics and micro components in order to prepare the waste stream for gasification. Secondly, a techno-economic and environmental sustainability analysis of the developed process chains should be performed. This PhD position will be copromoted between The Department of Industrial Biological Sciences and The Laboratory for Chemical Technology (LCT)
Profile of the candidate

You are interested in academic and/or project-based research and services in the domain of separation and recycling of polymers, experience would be an advantage.
You have a good knowledge on polymer chemistry and chemical engineering practices. - Knowledge on surface chemistry is an advantage. - You want to apply fundamental knowledge in an industrial context.
You are creative, open minded and can work independently.
You are a team player.
Good knowledge of English is a requirement, knowledge of Dutch is a plus.
